Weeds? What Weeds?
Every homeowner knows that weeding is just about the worst way to spend a summer afternoon. It is tedious, time consuming, and exhausting. And to make it worse, as soon as you pull one out, it seems like another one springs back up in its place!
The solution is costly weed killers that don't seem to work, right? Wrong! Dan Ryan Builders is here to the rescue! We found a list of homemade weed killers that not only cost significantly less, they are safe for pets and kids! Here is the list of easy creative ways to kill your weeds! Get ready to be amazed...
1.) Boiling Water - Yep, that’s right. Plain old H2O can be used as an extremely effective weed killer. As a matter of fact, boiling water is more effective than many of your store bought weed killers in wiping out unwanted vegetation.
2.) Bleach - Not only is bleach a spot remover, it is a weed remover as well. Place some bleach in a spray bottle and spray on the weed you wish to remove.
3.) Rubbing Alcohol - Rubbing alcohol is used around the house because it draws water out and helps to evaporate it quickly. Guess what? If you put it on a plant, it will do the same thing.
4.) Newspaper - If murdering your weeds with chemicals is not your style, you can always smother them. Laying down a layer of newspaper at least 4 sheets thick (the more the better) will go a long way towards killing the weeds underneath.
Now you're on your way to a gorgeous "weed-free" lawn! Try some of these methods out and let us know if they work. To read the full article, go [here]

Surpising New uses for Household Items!
Let's face it: cleaning is no fun. No matter what Martha Stuart says, house cleaning will always be a dreaded consequence of having your own home. But, here at Dan Ryan Builders, we try to make the process a bit more entertaining with these creative and fun tips! Each of these is a re-imagined way to use your favorite household items. Get ready to be shocked! Here we go:
- Before clearing snow off a driveway, liberally spray both sides of a plastic or metal shovel with cooking spray. The ice will slide right off the oily surface. It's the easiest trick for smoother snow removal.
- Remove small stains from suede by gently rubbing a nail file (either side) across the problem area a few times to get rid of the splotch.
- Add this to the grocery shopping list for new reasons. Cornmeal absorbs grease on light colored fabric or upholstery. Pour enough on to cover the soiled area and let sit for 15 to 30 minutes. Vacuum to remove the grains.
- Repair hardwood floors by rubbing shelled walnuts into shallow scratches. Their natural oils help hide the flaws.

We know that many of you are having parties and backyard barbeques tomorrow. So, we wanted to give you a couple of tips on how to decorate your beautiful Dan Ryan Builders home:
- Think of cold beverages as a decorating opportunity. Chill berry-flavored bottled juices or sodas in metal tubs filled with ice; you'll not only keep guests cool but also sneak in a few extra red, white and blue touches to carry the party's patriotic theme.
- With the harsh summer heat and intense rays of the sun in full effect, it's important your Fourth of July guests remain hydrated and UV-protected. Keep outdoor essentials nearby with a supply station stylishly stocked with rolled towels, sunblock and ice-cold water
- Who says Fourth of July decorating has to be all stars and stripes? Give your Independence Day decor a modern update by introducing red, white and blue through modern graphic patterns.
